Abstract:Emerging and resurging viral diseases such as SARS and Avian influenza A are among the most important of the emerging infectious disease and public health problems facing the world at the beginning of the new century. In the last two decades lots of new viruses have been recognized. More important, however, is the resurgence and geographic spread of a number of old viruses that have been once effectively controlled. This paper gives a brief view to the international developing situation and prospect in this field. We also outline the situation in China. Some suggestions on the future development of emerging virology are proposed.
