Abstract:In 2005, the progress of life sciences and biotechnology were considered as highlights amaong those in international sciences and technologies particularly in system biology, behavioral genetics, drug discovery and development, transgenic organism and bioenergy. In the meantime, year 2005 is witnessed a number of exciting events in Chinese life science and biotechnology community. Several landmark breakthroughs were made by scientists from China, including genomics and genetics, epigenetics, structure biology, plant biology and drug discovery. These achievements, combined with initiation of research centers for systems biology and systematic biomedical, laid the solid foundation for implementing the mid and long-term science and technological development plan started in 2006, and fulfilling our country’s goals to catch up and eventually lead in life science research and biotechnology development.
