Abstract:In this paper the characteristics and trends of the science and technology evaluation of the world-famous scientific research institutions are analyzed and summed up from the perspective of objectives, content and methods of evaluation. With the review and summarization of the practice and experience of S&T evaluation of Chinese Academy of Sciences, probable problems of CAS are analyzed. On the basis of the above analysis, several suggestions have been proposed: to take the American mode and European mode of S&T evaluation for reference, to explore a suitable S&T evaluation mode for CAS and constitute management criterion of evaluation, put the emphases on the following three kinds of evaluation: one for the strategic management, one for and promoting competition, and one for demonstrating policy orientation.
