With the developments of the astronomical techniques and information sciences, it is the time of astronomy with an enormously increased flow of data. This paper describes the function of the Virtual Observatory for the revolution in astronomy, and its scientific discovery and technical challenges. The Virtual Observatory will provide new opportunities for Chinese astronomical community.
